August is National Truancy Prevention Month! 🎒
At the DuPage Regional Office of Education, our Truancy and Attendance Department is starting the school year with a clear message: attendance support begins with connection.
Our team is focused on helping families build strong routines, access the resources they need, and feel supported throughout the school year. We’re also strengthening communication with school districts so we can continue working together on all things attendance and truancy.
Truancy is about support, not punishment.
A few simple habits can make a big difference:
• Build consistent morning and bedtime routines
• Make school attendance a priority
• Communicate early when challenges arise
• Stay connected with teachers and school staff
• Celebrate progress along the way
Every day counts. Every moment matters.

🤝 Partnership in Action: Gear Up Consignment + DuPage ROE
The DuPage Regional Office of Education is excited to partner with Gear Up Consignment in support of children and families throughout DuPage County.
Gear Up is hosting a Children's Re-Sale Event on October 10th and 11th at the DuPage County Fairgrounds. At the conclusion of the event, all remaining items will be donated to the DuPage ROE Parents as Teachers (PAT) program, giving these resources an opportunity to continue making a difference in our community.
To sell or shop the Gear Up event, go to gearup-sale.com
Parents as Teachers is an evidence based home visiting program that empowers families with the knowledge, skills and resources they need to help their children learn and grow. Through home visits, parent and child activities, developmental screenings, resources and monthly Group Connections, PAT provides meaningful support to families throughout DuPage County.
The program is slated to serve approximately 160 families and 170 children each year and is recognized as a Blue Ribbon program for its commitment to high quality services and meeting national model standards.
Through this new partnership, unsold clothing, books, toys, baby gear and other family items from Gear Up can find a new purpose supporting the children and families served through PAT.
It’s a wonderful example of community partnership in action, connecting available resources with families who can benefit from them.
Stronger together. Brighter futures. ✨

A New Year, A Shared Vision! 🌟
The Center for Student Success team is preparing to welcome students back on Thursday, and they are beginning the year by strengthening the connections that make their school community special.
During their first days of professional learning, CSS staff have focused on restorative practices, trauma informed education, and their new vision for the year:
“We envision a school where real connections broaden perspectives, inspire growth, and empower futures.”
That vision is built around four important commitments:
• Real Connections
• Broader Perspectives
• Inspire Growth
• Empower Futures
The team began its professional learning together in a staff circle and will close its time together the same way, putting connection and community at the center of their work.
We’re excited to see this vision come to life as CSS welcomes students back for another year of learning, connection, and growth! 💙

Student Health & Wellness: Supporting Students Before Concerns Become Crises
As students return to classrooms, the DuPage Regional Office of Education is expanding resources to help schools strengthen student mental health and wellness supports.
Through partnerships, training, and early intervention resources, the DuPage ROE is helping districts:
• Identify student mental health needs earlier
• Access MARO mental health screening at no cost
• Prepare for Illinois' universal mental health screening requirements
• Strengthen Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
• Connect students and families with school and community resources
“Every student deserves to enter the classroom knowing there are adults who see them, value them, and are ready to support them,” said DuPage Regional Superintendent Amber Quirk.
The DuPage ROE is also providing monthly webinars, implementation guidance, parent opt-out templates, and district case studies to support schools as they prepare for universal mental health screening.
Families are encouraged to connect with their child's school when concerns arise so support can begin early.
