Maercker Intermediate School in Westmont recently became the first school in DuPage County to be designated as a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Maercker was also the first institution in DuPage County to earn Stormwater Management’s Water Quality Flag. Through DuPage County’s partnerships with SCARCE, Maercker has earned 2 Earth flags and an ecology flag. Congratulations!

Schools can be eligible to become a Green Ribbon School by:

1. Reducing environmental impact and costs;

2. Improving the health and wellness of schools, students, and staff; and

3. Providing environmental education, which teaches many disciplines, and is especially good at effectively incorporating STEM, civic skills, and green career pathways.
